RED VELVET CREAM CHEESE COOKIES

PERFECT HOLIDAY TREAT

These delicious Red Velvet Cream Cheese Cookies are a fabulous soft and chewy cookie filled with favorite cream cheese frosting.

– all-purpose flour – baking powder – baking soda – salt – sugar – cream cheese  – butter  –  egg – vanilla extract – sprinkles

In a medium bowl, add the  cream cheese and sugar and beat with an electric mixer until  blended

Add in salt, vanilla, egg yolk and sour cream

Continue mixing until evenly mixed.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30  minutes. Then preheat oven to  350° F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder and salt.

and whisk together well.

In the large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.

Add in the egg yolk and vanilla extract and continue blending

Add the flour mixture in batches of ½ cup, blending after each.

Add in ⅛ teaspoon of red gel food coloring.

Continue mixing until it the color is blended in completely.

Place red sanding sugar in a small plate or shallow bowl.Red Sanding Sugar Using a cookie scoop or spoon, scoop about a tablespoon of dough and roll into balls.

Roll each dough ball in the red sugar and coat thoroughly

Place on the lined cookie sheet.

Using a measuring spoon, your thumb or finger, press down the center of each dough ball.

Bake for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven, carefully press in the center of each cookie down again. 

add the cream cheese  filling into each hole.

Place the cookies back in the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes until the filling has set. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely .
