This smooth, velvety homemade Apple Butter is made using simple ingredients of apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, and lemon juice, cooked low and slow resulting in a spreadable treat to use in or on many of your fall recipes!
3poundsGranny smith applespeeled, cored, and diced
½cuplight brown sugar
⅓cupwater
2tablespoonsfresh lemon juice½ a lemon
1tablespooncinnamon
Instructions
Place the diced apples, water, and lemon juice in a blender.
3 pounds Granny smith apples, ½ cup light brown sugar, ⅓ cup water, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until completely smooth.
Pour the pureed apple mixture to a slow cooker and add the brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
Cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the it is dark brown. Stir the apple butter every hour or two so that is doesn't burn on the bottom.
Notes
Use other apples like Macintosh, Courtland, Honeycrisp, Fuji or Gala apples.Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract.You can add all the ingredients unblended to the crock pot and cook. then puree it after cooking to desired consistency.Place in an airtight jar and refrigerate for up to two weeks.Freeze for up to 2 months.Adjust the sugar to your liking. I prefer a little less added sweetness but feel free to add up to a cup of sugar. Use a mixture of half and half brown sugar and white sugar if you prefer.
