Don’t have apple pie spice that’s needed for a recipe? With just a few simple ingredients in your cabinet you’ll have the perfect spice blend to add warm and cozy flavors to your favorite desserts.

Whether you’re baking a classic apple pie or adding a touch of warmth to your apple desserts and other recipes, this apple pie spice is the perfect ingredient to bring out that cozy, comforting feeling we all crave, especially during the holiday’s and cooler months. I use this simple recipe in my apple pie cupcakes and these apple oatmeal cookies too.

    Easy Homemade Apple Pie Spice

It’s great not having to run to the store every time you want to add a dash of apple pie seasoning to your recipe. Not only is it cheaper and more convenient than pre-made apple pie spices, but, like this pumpkin pie spice, making your own spice blend also lets you to customize it to your own taste.

What’s in Homemade Apple Pie Spice?

Apple pie seasoning is a diy blend of spices that complement the flavor of apples. The most common spices used in this blend are cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice. Some recipes may also include ginger, ground cloves, cardamom, or even black pepper for a little kick.

    • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
    • 2 tablespoons ground nutmeg
    • 4 teaspoons ground allspice

Step 1 – Gather the ingredients and a small bowl or jar to mix them the spices in.

Step 2 – Combine all of the ingredients in the bowl or jar and mix or shake thoroughly.

How to Store Apple Pie Spice?

Store in an airtight container up to 12 months. I like to use a small mason jars or an old, saved spice jar. Store it in a cool, dark place to keep the spices fresh.

How to Use Apple Pie Spice

Now that you have your homemade spice blend, it’s time to start using it! Here are a few tips and suggestions to get you started:

    1. Use it in Baked Goods

The most obvious use for apple spice is in baked goods. Use it in place of cinnamon in any recipe for an extra burst of flavor. It’s particularly delicious in apple pie , but it’s also great in muffins, quick breads, cobblers and cookies.

    2. Sprinkle it on Oatmeal or Yogurt

Add a small amount to your oatmeal or yogurt. It’s a simple way to add a touch of warmth and flavor to your breakfast routine.

    3. Make a Homemade Latte

Skip the coffee shop and make your own homemade latte with a dash of apple pie spice. Mix your favorite coffee with some heated milk and a sprinkle of your homemade spice blend for a cozy treat. It’s also great in apple cider!

    3. Add it to Smoothies

Give your smoothies a fall twist by adding a teaspoon of apple pie spice. It’s particularly delicious with apple or pumpkin smoothies, but feel free to experiment with your favorite fruits.

    5. Use it in Savory Dishes

Don’t limit yourself to using apple pie spice in sweet dishes! It’s also delicious in savory recipes like roasted vegetables or grilled chicken. Use it as a rub or seasoning for a little extra warmth and flavor.

    6. Mix it with Sugar

For an extra boost of flavor, mix a teaspoon of apple pie spice with some sugar and sprinkle it over toast, waffles or muffins. It’s also delicious on top of baked sweet potatoes or roasted squash.

    7. Add it to Batters or Frostings

Use it to flavor pancake batter, french toast or waffle batter or even add it to whipped cream or frosting for a delicious finishing touch.

    Tips

    • Use fresh, high-quality spices for the best flavor. You want to make sure your cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice are all fresh and fragrant. If your spices have been sitting in your pantry for a while, it may be time to replace them.
    • Adjust the quantities of each spice based on your personal taste preferences. If you love cinnamon, add a little extra. If you’re not a fan of nutmeg, use a little less.
    • Feel free to double or triple this recipe.
    • Try different variations. As mentioned earlier, there are many different variations of apple pie spice you can try. Experiment with different combinations of spices to find your perfect blend.
