Grinch Oreo Balls Ingredients
- Red Velvet Oreo cookies – form the base of these little treats
- Cream cheese – softened, adding a creamy, tangy balance to the sweetness of the cookies.
- Green candy melts – I used light green but you can use a darker green color if you’d like. I like to use Wilton candy melts or Melt ‘Ems brand. Gives the perfect festive bright green color and an another layer of sweetness.
- Red heart sprinkles – Gives the fun grinch touch that makes them special. Find red candy hearts in some stores like Walmart, Hobby Lobby or Joann Fabrics or order the red candy hearts on Amazon.
Variations
1.Use any flavor regular stuff Oreo. Regular, Golden Oreos, Peppermint Oreos, Gingerbread Oreos, Peanut Butter Oreos, Golden Oreos
2. Sprinkle with green colored sugar or green sprinkles if desired.
3. Use ⅓ less fat cream if you’d like.
How to Make Grinch Oreo Truffles
Step 1 – Line a large baking sheet with parchment.
Step 2 – In a food processor, add the cookies and pulse a few times into fine cookie crumbs. You can also use a blender or place them in a zip closure plastic baggie and crush them with a rolling pin.
Step 3 – In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and blend with an electric hand mixer on high speed until smooth.
Step 4 – Add the oreo crumbs and mix together well.
Step 5 – Using a small cookie scoop (1.5″ size is perfect), scoop the mixture and roll into smooth balls with your hands and place onto the prepared baking sheet.
Step 6 – Place the tray in the refrigerator at least for at least 2 hours to chill before dipping so they hold their shape.
Step 7 – Set aside ½ cup of the candy wafers to use for the drizzle after dipping if you’d like.
Step 8 – In a double boiler, add the candy melts and heat over low heat, stirring often, until melted and smooth. Be very careful not to overheat or get any water into the candy or it may seize and be unusable.
Step 9 Then, using a fork or toothpick, dip each dough ball into the melted candy. Tap the fork on the edge of the pot to remove excess chocolate and place it onto baking sheet.
Step 10 – If you’d like to add the extra drizzle, you can drizzle any leftover melted candy with a spoon or knife over top of truffle. Or you can place the reserved ½ cup of candy melts into a microwave safe piping bag.
Twist it tight to close and place it in the microwave and melt on a low setting (defrost setting) for 30 seconds. Then massage the bag until fully melted. Repeat for another 30 seconds if needed. (Again, be careful not to overheat it).
Snip a small tip off the bag and drizzle over the coated balls and immediately top with a red candy heart before the drizzle sets.
Place the cookie sheet back in the refrigerator to set completely.
Tips:
- Be sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature so it mixes smoothly. Letting it sit out on the counter for about 30 minutes to one hour works for me.
- Chill the balls before dipping to maintain their shape.
- The drizzle is optional. You can simply place a red heart directly onto the dipped truffle immediately after each is dipped
- Double Stuf or Mega Stuf Oreos tend to make the filling too wet.
- Melt the candy wafers in a microwave-safe bowl heated in the microwave at 30 second intervals on 60% power level or defrost mode. Stir between each interval and be very careful not to overheat. 2 or 3 30 second intervals is usually plenty. They will continue to melt after removing and stirring.
Can I use white chocolate instead of candy melts?
Yes, you can use tempered white chocolate chips or almond bark with green food coloring added as a substitute for candy melt. But keep in mind that the melted chocolate may not have the same consistency or color as the candy melts. Add up to a tablespoon or coconut oil to give it a more shiny coating.

Hiya! Was just wondering if you have any tips on getting the Oreo balls so smooth? Every time I make them they look terrible because I have a hard time getting them off of the fork without the chocolate getting everywhere. My daughter picked these out to make for our Christmas baking weekend. They are super cute.

I agree. Mine have all kinds of ridges and peaks. I was afraid to keep heating the chocolate because I didn’t want to burn it. Delicious but awful looking
Steph
Do these have to be refrigerated if they are going to be eaten the next day?
Pam
I’m going to try these ❤️
