    Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients for Golden Graham cereal bars - marshmallows, golden grahams cereal, butter and chocolate bars.

Golden Graham Cereal –  similar to Cinnamon Toast Crunch with cinnamon sugar flavors.

Marshmallows –  I like using miniature marshmallows but you can use regular marshmallows too.

Butter – I used salted butter in this recipe but unsalted is fine if you’d prefer.

Chocolate bars –  To make them taste more like smores, I added Hershey bars but use any favorite of yours.

    Variations To Try

Add some dried fruit: add raisins or cranberries.
Mix in some chopped nuts or seeds: mix in peanuts, chopped pecans. almonds or walnuts or even sunflower seeds.
Top the bars with a drizzle of melted chocolate and extra mini marshmallows.
Stir in a nut butter: For a nutty flavor, stir in a spoonful of peanut butter, almond butter or other favorite nut butter.
Top with chocolate chips: Feel free to use regular milk chocolate chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, mini chocolate chips instead of chocolate bars.
Add some other candies: Add Reese’s Pieces or toffee Heath Bar chips.

How to Make these Golden Grahams Treats

Step 1 – Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

Melted butter in a large pot.

Step 2 – In a large pot, add the butter and melt over medium heat to medium-low heat until melted.

Step 3 – Stir in 5 ½ cups of the marshmallows, stirring frequently, until they have melted.

Step 4 – Remove the pot from the heat and stir in golden grahams into the melted marshmallows and the 1 ½ cups of the remaining marshmallows.

Step 5: Add half of the cereal mixture to the 9×13 inch pan and press it evenly into the bottom of the pan.

Step 6: Add half of the broken chocolate bars and to this layer of mixture.

The cereal marshmallow mixture pressed evenly as an additional layer on top of the bottom layer.

Step 7: Then, add the other half of the cereal mixture and press it down over the first layer.

Step 8: Top with the remaining chocolate bar pieces and extra marshmallows.

    Tips

    • Use fresh marshmallows Old marshmallows may be tough to melt and can affect the texture of the bars.
    • Don’t overcook the marshmallow mixture You want the melted marshmallow to be smooth and creamy.  If it is overcooked it can be hard to work with.
    • Press the mixture firmly into the pan: Use a spatula, the back of a wooden spoon, parchment paper or wax paper with your hands or spray your hands with non-stick spray to press the mixture firmly into the dish. This will ensure that the bars hold together well.
    • Let the bars cool completely before cutting: It can be tempting to dig in right away, but letting the bars cool completely, 30 minutes to an hour, will make them easier to cut and ensure that they hold their shape.
