Easy Strawberry Marshmallow Fluff
This classic fluff recipe is a potluck favorite made with very little effort. Some recipes require jello mix, instant vanilla pudding mix, or even condensed milk. I like using cream cheese so that it tastes more like a strawberry cheesecake fluff and is so creamy!
Ingredients/shopping list
- Cream cheese: This recipe requires 2 blocks of cream cheese. I prefer to use full fat to get the proper consistency. Make sure to bring it to room temperature early enough so that it is soft by the time you need to whip it.
- Powdered sugar: This adds sweetness and helps to stabilize the mixture.
- Vanilla extract: Adds a delicious vanilla flavor that pairs well with the strawberries and cream.
- Whipped topping: I use cool whip thawed. I know it’s stabilized so it won’t make the strawberry fluff too runny too soon. However, if you prefer homemade whipped cream, you can use it instead.
- Mini marshmallows: Using mini marshmallows is just fun! They add texture and extra fluff.
- Fresh strawberries: Chopped into chunks. Look for strawberries that are plump, bright red, and smell like a proper strawberry!
- Graham crackers: An optional topping. They make great dippers!
Variations/ Substitutions
1. I prefer my strawberry fluff this way, but you can certainly swap the cream cheese powdered sugar, and vanilla for cheesecake or strawberry-flavored instant pudding mix. Blend it with 2 cups of cold milk until it’s thick, then stir in the whipped topping and strawberries.
2. Add some sliced banana, crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, raspberries or blueberries if desired. You can add them to this strawberry fluff salad or use this recipe to make different varieties of dessert salad!
3. For crunch, some coconut flakes, chopped pecans or walnuts would be great.
4. You could also do some chocolate chips or white chocolate chips for an extra sweet treat.
5. Turn it into a strawberry fluff pie by using it as a filling on top of a graham cracker crust. So good!
How to Make Strawberry Fluff Salad Recipe
This recipe will come together in a few simple steps. It really is a one-bowl, no-bake recipe, that is as easy as it gets!
Step 1: To a large bowl, add the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
Step 2: Use an electric hand mixer to blend on medium speed until fluffy and smooth.
Step 3: Gently fold in the cool whip. The way we keep this dessert light and fluffy is by not releasing too much of the trapped air by overdoing the blending.
Step 4: Gently mix in the strawberries and marshmallows. Make sure everything is well coated and evenly distributed.
Step 5: Cover the bowl with foil or plastic wrap and chill it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or even better up to 2 hours before serving. This will give it time for the flavors to blend even more.
Garnish with graham crackers just before serving, otherwise, they’ll get soggy!
Tips
- Stir gently. Not only so that you don’t overmix, but so you don’t break up the chunks of fruit.
- Serve it in a glass bowl, if possible. It’s nice to be able to see the pink hue and the bright red strawberries!
- Don’t skip the chill time. It’s best once the flavors have a chance to come together.
FAQ’s
You can use strawberries that have been thawed from frozen, but be sure that they are fully thawed and pat dry so they don’t water down the strawberry fluff salad.
Store leftover fluff in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can enjoy leftovers for up to 2-3 days. The longer it sits, the more likely the fluff is to separate. If that happens just gently stir it together again.
I don’t recommend it, as the texture changes once it has thawed, especially the marshmallows.
