These Almond Butter Brownie Bars are the perfect mixture of deliciousness. Made with all-natural ingredients, they make an ultimate little healthy treat.

    Almond Butter Brownie Bars

There is really nothing more fun than making a dessert that you can enjoy without feeling extra guilty. This is one of those that fools them all, (just like these Healthy Gluten Free Brownies)

I love the challenge of making desserts “healthier”. Hubby has more of a sweet tooth than I do and he rarely indulges in anything other than really dark chocolate. Needless to say, he is absolutely lovin’ when I make great little treats like this. Now if I can only get him to leave everyone else a little morsel too. 🙂

    Brownie Layer

½ cup coconut sugar, honey or agave nectar

½ cup almond meal flour or whole-wheat pastry flour (regular whole wheat flour will work fine too)

    ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

    ¼ teaspoon salt

    ¼ teaspoon baking powder

½ cup unsweetened applesauce or melted butter

¼ cup liquid egg whites or 2 eggs

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    ½ cup chocolate chips

    Almond Butter Layer

    1 cup almond butter

½ cup coconut sugar or brown sugar

    2 tablespoons butter, melted

    1 egg, beaten

    ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    ½ teaspoon salt

    ¼ teaspoon baking soda

    ½ cup chocolate chips

    Almond Butter Brownie Bars2

    DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Line an square baking dish with parchment paper or grease with coconut oil.

    Set aside.

    Brownie Layer

In a bowl, mix the sugar or other sweetener of choice), flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt.

Add the egg, butter and vanilla extract.

    Mix together thoroughly.

Gently mix in the chocolate chips.

Spread in one even layer on the bottom of the baking dish.

    Almond Butter Layer

In another bowl, mix together all of the almond butter ingredients, except the chocolate chips

    Mix in the chocolate chips.

Carefully drop almond butter mixture in various spots on top of the brownie layer and spread evenly.

    Almond Butter Brownie Bars5

Bake 30 – 34 minutes or until golden brown on top

    Let cool.

Lift out of the pan by the parchment paper.

    Almond Butter Brownie Bars6

    Cut into squares

    ENJOY!!

These look amazing! I’m a fan of making recipes healthier too, and adding a second layer of almond butter to them just takes them over the top. I found you on Pinworthy Projects and would like to invite you to share this recipe with us at our Friday Frenzy party too. – Angels Homestead

Amanda, these look incredible! I couldn’t agree with you more. I love desserts that have a health factor to them. I don’t have almond butter, but I am going to try these very soon with peanut butter (like tonight!)

      Thanks for sharing. Pinning.
