A bowl of crack dip topped with shredded cheese, bacon bits, and sliced green onions, surrounded by potato chips.

This crack dip recipe is creamy, cheddar cheesy, and loaded flavor from with bacon, ranch seasoning, and green onions.  It's the perfect 10 minute dip idea for game day, potlucks, BBQs, or holiday parties.

Like this mexican cowboy caviar and this creamy corn dip, this easy dip recipe is always a big hit at any gathering I bring it to.

    Best Cream Cheese Dip

Having easy appetizers like this delicious dip when you need some quick to make is a must to have on hand!  Simple ingredients and a just few minutes of prep and this cream cheese dip with bacon, ranch and cheese is ready to go.

You may be wondering how this dip got it’s “crack” name.  It is because it is highly addictive! It's a known nickname for many recipes made with bacon, cheese, and ranch seasonings.

Knowing that,  feel free to double the recipe for a larger crowd.  Although you can serve it right away, it’s perfect to make ahead a day ahead too. The flavors meld together even more.

TIP: When serving at parties, place the serving bowl of dip in a bigger bowl of ice and wrap a pretty towel around it to keep in cooler longer.

    What’s in Crack Dip?

The complete list of ingredients with amounts are listed in the full recipe card below.

    • Cream cheese – Softened. I let it sit on the counter for about 30 minutes. If you are in a hurry, you can place the unwrapped block in a bowl and microwave it for 15 seconds.
    • Sour cream – Use either regular or light sour cream. Or swap it for plain Greek yogurt if you’d like. Swap ½ cup of the sour cream for mayonnaise instead and use 1 cup of sour cream.
    • Dry ranch seasoning mix – My favorite is the Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning mix. NOT the ranch dip mix. (this has a different flavor in my opinion)
    • Shredded cheddar cheese – Freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese is the best in the dip. I use this shredded and it’s SO quick!  Use mild cheddar or a different kind of cheese like Colby Jack, Monterey, or even a Pepper jack for a spicy flavor.
    • Bacon crumbles – I used a box of microwavable bacon and crumbled it. Feel free to cook real bacon (I like to bake bacon in the oven for this or bacon bits.
    • Green onions – sliced thin. I just use the green part.

    Variations to Try

Add even more flavor with this ideas:

    1. Add a teaspoon of garlic powder

    2. Add ½ a finely diced jalapeños or a dash of cayenne pepper.

    • Wheat Thins or Tricuits
    • Ritz cracks or other butter crackers
    • Rice crackers
    • Carr Wafer crackers
    • Bagel chips
    • Pretzels
    • Crostini or baguette slices
    • Carrot Sticks
    • Celery Sticks
    • Sliced red peppers

    How to Store Leftovers

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days. Freezing this dip is not recommended because the texture will change.
