Did you know you can grow Green Onions over and over again in your kitchen? This is simply too fun not to share.
I saw this little kitchen hack on Facebook somewhere and just had to try it for myself and share it with you. And it works!! It’s fabulous! No more having to buy Green Onions.
Just simply take the roots of the last batch that you do purchase at the grocery store and put them in a glass of water. Place it on a window sill for sunlight. (This picture was taken on March 2nd)
VOILA!!
In less than a week, they will grow to their original size. Scallions forever! Just snip off what you need to use for a recipe and it will continue to grow and grow. (This picture was taken on March 11th)
I did change the water in the glass every few days to keep it fresh but otherwise that’s it!
Have you ever tried regrowing foods from scraps?

We’ve done this a lot. We’ve also tried with romaine lettuce and garlic. But sadly I don’t have a green thumb at all or the ability to keep things growing again a … week. LOL

I’ve been doing this for about a year now and its the best thing ever! I seriously tell every one I know about this!
I just redesigned my older blog and trying to get the word out there if you would like to check out some of my great healthy eating recipes. Plus now we even have a FB page if you like what I blog about! Happy blogging!

I tried this last year and I was amazed at how fast they grew! But after a few months, they stopped growing and were going a bit gross (despite changing the water daily) 🙁

Love this idea. I use those bottoms though so not sure I could do this.

I have done this before, and it’s a great way to save money, especially when you use a lot of them in stir frys and salads. Guilty! One thing I have found is that changing the water is really important… Otherwise the onions get funky and slimy. Gross. (Found you through the Handmade Tuesdays link up!)

A friend said to wash the tips that are in water with a little dawn dish soap and put back in fresh water and it works great!

Who knew it could be this easy!! I have some scallions in my garden…which is snow covered! Rather than buying from the grocery store for my next recipe, I will be buting them to do this!!! <3 this! Thank you!
Melissa
I am totally going to try this! This is awesome!
