How I Use This Italian Seasoning

Instead of pulling out all the separate dried herbs and spices each time you want to add Italian flavors to dishes, I like to have this spice blend on hand to grab quickly.

Just use this 1:1 for any recipes that call of Italian seasoning in them.

    1. Add to Italian recipes like pasta sauces and soups like Italian Wedding Soup or Minestrone soup.

    2. Use in casseroles like our Johnny Marzetti recipe or Cabbage Roll Casserole

    3. Sprinkle over roasted vegetables or potatoes. I love it in these wonderful roasted onions and these baked zucchini fries.

    4. Add to marinades for chicken, beef, or tofu.

    5. Mix with olive oil for a quick bread dip with our easy Italian bread recipe.

    6. Add into homemade salad dressings or vinaigrettes like balsamic vinaigrette.

    What’s in Italian Seasoning?

With just a few dried herbs you can quickly make your own Italian seasoning in just a few minutes. It’s versatile so feel free to adjust to your liking.

A white plate on a wooden board holds labeled piles of dried herbs and garlic powder: basil, oregano, parsley, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, and garlic powder.
    • Dried oregano
    • Dried basil
    • Dried parsley
    • Garlic powder
    • Dried Marjoram – If you don't have marjoram, just leave it out and add a little more oregano. It’s very similar flavor, slightly sweeter than oregano.
    • Dried rosemary
    • Dried thyme
    • Optional ingredients: 1 tablespoon onion powder and ¼-1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes.

Can Fresh Herbs Be Used in Homemade Italian Seasoning Mix?

You can use fresh herbs. They are more flavorful but the shelf life will be much shorter than dry seasoning.

You will need about 3 times more fresh herbs than dried so you will need to add more to recipes you use it in.

How to Make Homemade Italian Seasoning

Add all of the dried spices to a glass jar, old spice container, or other glass small container with a lid.

    Storing This Seasoning Blend

Store homemade spice mixes in an airtight container in a dark place like your cabinet or pantry so they stay fresh the longest. It will usually stay fresh for up to 6 months.
