Ingredients You’ll Need for this Recipe
Below is a list of the ingredients you’ll need to gather to make this easy recipe. Scroll down to the full recipe card for individual amounts.
- Gala Apples: or other red apples like Macintosh or Fuji apples also.
- Granny Smith Apples: Or any green tart apple.
- Lime Juice: Helps prevent the apples from browning.
- Caramel Sauce: Make this homemade caramel or use your favorite store brand found in ice cream sundae sections of stores.
- Mini Chocolate Chips: Sprinkled on top for extra yumminess.
Variations
- Substitute lemon juice or apple juice for the lime juice.
- Add chocolate sauce instead of or in addition to the caramel sauce.
- Warm a little creamy peanut butter or almond butter (or other nut butter) in a microwave safe bowl for about 20-30 seconds and drizzle the melted peanut butter over the apples instead of the caramel.
- Use all red or all green apples if you’d like.
How to Make Apple Nachos
Step 1: Slice the apples into thin slices and place them in a bowl. Feel free to use an apple corer for larger pieces if desired.
Step 2: Drizzle the lime juice over the sliced apples, toss to coat and let sit for 1-2 minutes to help prevent them from turning brown.
Step 3: Place the apple slices on a plate and drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with chocolate chips and serve immediately.
Tips
- Fresh lime juice is best, but you can use bottled if that’s all you have.
- For an extra touch, sprinkle some chopped nuts or shredded coconut over the top.
How to Store Leftovers
Refrigerate: If you have any leftovers (though we doubt you will!), store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The lime juice will help keep the apples from turning brown, but it’s best to enjoy them fresh.
Apple nachos are best enjoyed fresh and are not recommended for freezing.
