Making a green smoothie is a wonderful, quick way to get much more fruits and vegetables into your daily diet. Here are tips to create the perfect green smoothie.

    Green Smoothie Recipe

Having the perfect formula for a green smoothie recipe is key to getting a smoothie that tastes extremely fantastic or one that is just plain ole stinky.

For years, I was a complete skeptic on the possible taste coming from all the green smoothies I saw come across my Pinterest feed.

But believe me when I say this.  I was so, so wrong about my assumption!

Green smoothies are a wonderful way to get in more of those very important fruits and veggies into our days.  Even though I try so hard, I find it really hard to get in as much as I need to.

Making the perfect green smoothie starts with having the right combination of the green leafy veggies and fruits.

After some experimenting, the ratio I love to use for our green smoothies is:

    • 2 cups of a leafy green (about 2 nice handfuls of spinach or kale)
    • 3 cups of fruit (combinations of fruit are the best)

I rarely add ice to my smoothies.  Freezing ripe bananas (peeled first), and/or using frozen fruits are perfect for making them perfectly cold for me without them getting bland and watery.

Change up the fruits you use.  Strawberries, blueberries, bananas, orange, pineapple, raspberries, avocado, peaches, etc.

You can add a little milk (of your choice) if you need to make it less thick.

    My favorite Green Smoothie recipe:

    INGREDIENTS

½ Apple (I love a granny smith in this)

    1 Banana, peeled then frozen

    1 tablespoon fresh ginger

    Juice of one lemon

    1 Orange

    ½ cup blueberries

1 cup of fresh Spinach, tightly packed

1 scoop of whey protein, optional

    DIRECTIONS

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until completely mixed.

Depending on the fruits you use, your green smoothie may be dark or lighter in color.  My favorite with blueberries makes for a much darker green smoothie.

    ENJOY!!!

Your green smoothie sounds delicious! I love the addition of the ginger – what a great flavour it would add. Stumbled. Thank you for sharing with us at the Hearth and Soul Hop.

Found you through the Live Randomly Simple linkup, and this is helpful! I love green smoothies but I tend to get a little crazy with the ingredients they come out weird, so a formula really helps. And lemon seems to bridge the gap between fruit and veg. 🙂 I’m planning a series of guest post sharing between my blog and like-minded bloggers, and I’d love to include this. If you’re interested in sharing each other’s posts, my blog is http://www.widemeadow.com. Thanks! 🙂

I will definitely have to give this a shot. Trying to be healthier and eat more veggies – this would do the trick!

Yes, I am a green smoothie fan! I too, was skeptical at first, even though I love eating greens. Putting them in my smoothies just seemed so…odd. I’m totally hooked now and love getting so much fruit and vegetable goodness packed into my diet in a single punch. I enjoy adding mine to a homemade kefir base – getting protein and probiotics in the deal!
Your recipe sounds great and I look forward to trying it.
