These easy chocolate truffles with dates are completely decedent and made with no refined sugar, butter, or oils. Just simple, delicious, melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

A hand holds a chocolate date truffle with a bite taken out, revealing its rich, dense interior. More truffles are visible on a plate in the background.

I have made many recipes using dates, these homemade lara bars or these Superfood Energy Bars or this pecan pie with dates that is just perfection.

I made these little date balls to have for the weekend camping and literally latest just one day!  They are so quick to make so feel free to make a double batch.

Just toss the ingredients in a food processor and pulse for a few minutes until it’s a smooth dough.  Then roll into balls and then coat in cocoa powder for the finishing touch.

    Ingredients Needed

The complete list of ingredients with amounts are listed in the full recipe card below.

    • Medjool dates – Be sure to pick pitted dates.
    • Peanut butter – I use all natural peanut butter but use any favorite. You can also use almond butter.
    • Cocoa powder – plus 2 tablespoons for rolling
    • Almond milk – I use unsweetened almond milk. But you can use oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk or even regular milk
    • Vanilla extract – choose a quality brand and not imitation vanilla extract.

How to Make Chocolate Date Truffles

Step 1: Theses are the easiest to make. Just place all ingredients into a food processor and pulse until everything is blended into a completely smooth dough, for approximately 4-5 minutes.

Step 2: Place the extra tablespoons of cocoa powder on a plate and spread it out evenly.

Step 3: Moisten your hands slightly and scoop a tablespoon of the dough and roll it into a ball. Roll each date ball in the cocoa on the plate.

Step 4: After rolling all the dough into balls, sprinkle with a little more cocoa powder over top if you’d like.

    How to Store Date Balls

Refrigerate: store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Freeze: These do freeze well for me in a freezer bag for up to 2 months.

How many calories do you estimate one truffle to have?

When I divided the ingredients evenly (by weighing on my scale), each truffle is 73 calories | 15 grams Carbs | 1 gram protein | 1 gram fat. 🙂

Do you suggest any alterations to the Chocolate Truffle recipe if using Deglet dates?

You would probably need to use about twice as many Deglet dates as Medjool since they are usually significantly smaller in size. I did weigh the amount of dates I used in this recipe so try to get close to 220 grams. From what I have heard, Deglets are also not quite as sweet as and a little harder than Medjool as well. (to soften them you can soak overnight in water)

You had me at CHOCOLATE! Both my husband and I are chocoholics so we would have these gone quickly if I were to make them at my house.
